Welcome Kankakee River Valley Forest Preserve District

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Kankakee River Valley Forest Preserve District as the newest IPARKS Member. The Forest Preserve started in 1986 and serves a local population of 35,000. Its mission is to preserve and protect open space, such as forest, prairie and wetland; to restore natural habitat for native plants and wildlife; and to provide educational programs for the appreciation, understanding and preservation of our natural areas. Six site locations comprise the Forest Preserve. They are:

Shannon Bayou Environmental Education Center
3301 Waldron Road, Aroma Park

Aroma Land and Water Preserve
On Heiland Road, 1.4 miles south of Highway 17 East

Gar Creek Trail and Prairie Restoration
One-half mile east of Route 45 on River Road adjacent to Kankakee Community College

Waldron Arboretum
Located 1.1 miles south of Route I-57

Strasma Grove
On Duane Boulevard in Kankakee

Limestone Reforestation Site
This site is a 30-acre preserve on County Road 3750 West.
